Evan was desperate to get his son back from the evil man that was holding him hostage, desperate enough to hand over an innocent young woman to be tortured in his son's place . . . or so he thought, but as he got to know Cassie, things became more complicated than he'd thought they'd be. This story is dark and gritty. Evan isn't all good, and he certainly never pretends to be, but his internal conflict over his unique code of right and wrong is what made this story so good. Cassie was interesting too, providing a twisted internal struggle to go along with her feisty fits of rebellion. Great dark romance with a HEA.
There's something about dark heroes that really gets me. Maybe it's seeing them struggle and then be redeemed. Maybe it's just the idea that good love can redeem them. In any case, the hero in this book fit the bill. From the start, it was clear he was not a good guy and he was in an impossible situation but also that he wanted to be a better person deep down.
The heroine was pretty amazing. Growing up as she did with that father, she might have been broken, her spirit crushed. Instead, she still had strength and it carried her through.
This story is exactly what the title promises - merciless love. A great book for anyone who enjoys a dark hero and the woman whose love redeems him. Recommended!!
In "Merciless Love A Dark Romance" we meet Cassie, a woman who has grown up living a life of abuse and mistreatment at the hands of a cult. When professional killer Evan "saves" her, she feels her prayers have been answered and grateful to him for freeing her. Little does she know Evan's concern isn't for her well-being, but that he can save his son in exchange for her.
This is a fast-paced dark story that is jam-packed with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the final page. I loved Cassie, and despite being a cold-blooded killer, I liked and felt for Evan as well. The chemistry and constant push-pull effect between the characters was well done.
Overall, another great read from Nicole Snow.
I've only read two other books by Nicole Snow...her first two Prairie Devils...because usually biker books really get me going...but this one...wow...a dark and action packed change of pace for her and one that I really enjoyed!
Some bad people do bad things for all the wrong reasons...some bad people do good things for all the wrong reasons and yet sometimes good people do bad things for the right reasons and all of these scenarios are explored in this twisted and dark non-romantic but totally an unconventional love story. Confused? Well don't be...this one had me from the first few nail-biting pages and kept me steadily reading until I was done, because you really want to...no NEED to know how things will play out.
When Cassie is rescued from one hell (her father and the religious cult they belonged to) and taken to another one (thinking she was saved by a kind stranger) and thrown into the desperate world of Evan and his sister-in-law Izzy...you just knew no good would come from her fate. She is to be used in an exchange...one life for another...and the life Evan seeks to save is more precious to him than Cassie, a virtual stranger to him who was basically in the wrong place at the wrong time and became a pawn in his scheme. Of course many things happen to cause a change in plans and when feelings and sexual chemistry get involved...all bets are off and new plans emerge.
I was very happy with the direction the story went (although this basic plot has been done in other books)..it was an emotional and sexy read that had some tense moments and graphic violence along the way. Evan's character was one of those alpha males who get the job done with no remorse, but he had a conscience and it was interesting to read his inner dialogue as he went back and forth with his decisions...while Cassie morphed from an innocent to a stronger woman.

I think I've read all of Nicole Snow's MC romances now, so when I saw this dark romance by her, I definitely wanted to check it out. It's kind of similar to her MC ones, but not quite.
I liked the beginning a lot. It was right in the moment, but a different kind of moment, you know? Cassie's having an argument with her father over something kind of weird, but interesting. And then...
Well, things happen, suddenly Evan is there, and he takes her. It's a strange sort of situation, but I liked it. She thinks he's helping her, but he's not really. Or is he?
I liked the sort of back and forth interplay there between the darkness and salvation, though. I thought that was interesting and it fits with a lot of what I'd expect from a Nicole Snow romantic suspense novel. Her MC ones had tinges of this in a lot of ways, too.
Mainly, what if there's salvation in darkness? It's an interesting thought. Things might be bad, but maybe they're still better than they were? Cassie and Evan have some rough times in this one, and it's really gritty and real, but I loved the story.
I'd definitely recommend it. If you like this one, there's plenty more by Nicole Snow that are similar and great, too (the MC/biker romance ones). Really great book and dark in all the right ways!
